Day 10 – Darwin to Nashville

Monday 1st. July 2013

Breakfast at Envie with hangy.

Met Mikey and Gretta at the French Markets for extensive but lazy wandering and shopping.
Absinthe Bar for beer and heard a student brass band rehearsing up the lane.
Home for a shower and cat nap which didn’t happen.
Chatted with Brandon and played his $300 Regal dobro which plays beautifully and has great action and intonation. Saw his Dad’s music chart book.

Heard a gigantic thump and discovered the house directly opposite was getting demolished.
Ron from Some Like It Hot had worded me up on the Bluegrass Pickin’ Jam Night at Hi-Ho Lounge which is only a few doors from home. Checked it out but it was starting late.
Had a beer at The Spotted Cat in Frenchmen Street and watched the band. Met Mikey & Gretta for dinner at Snug Harbour right opposite and watched Charmaine Neville and Friends show.

The venue was sit down but the chairs were icy and the band not really organised. It was a ticketed show so we were surprised. Charmaine seemed distracted and didn’t really eyeball the audience. Possibly the effects of the night before we’re kicking in because we all felt a bit lack lustre and the jokes onstage seemed leaden. I was so bored I walked out and Gretta walked home she was so unwell. Trooper Mikey sat it out and we had a short debrief and decided to quit while we were ahead.

Dropped in to Kajun Bar for a nightcap and watched karaoke. I chat with locals about music, hitch-hiking, photography, the economy, love, lust and Indian reservations. The post euphoria funk tastes sweet again.
